Privacy-aware Analysis of GSM Data

GSM data sources bring a new quantity and quality to the analysis of mobility data. Practitioners as well as researchers are interested to utilize GSM data in existing and upcoming application scenarios. This raises on the one side questions about the handling, interpretation and analysis of GSM data. On the other side the exploitation of GSM data calls for a provable and feasible protection of sensitive information. This workshop therefore addresses the privacy-preserving analysis of GSM data. It brings together practitioners and researchers on a European level to present and discuss the chances, challenges, state-of-the-art research and applications of GSM data with respect to privacy-aware data analysis.

The workshop program consists of invited talks from practitioners of leading European mobile network operators and scientific experts from the area of mobility analysis and data privacy. The talks will take up topics ranging from the collection, anonymization, analysis and application of GSM data.

In addition to the invited talks, the workshop contains a poster and demonstration session which allows each participant to present own work on the analysis and exploitation of GSM data. We hope that the workshop initiates many fruitful discussions, critical questions and insightful exchanges.

The workshop addresses practitioners and experts of European mobile network operators, scientist from the area of mobility analysis and data privacy connected to GSM data as well as interested professional users of GSM data.

The workshop is organized in the context of MODAP (Mobility, Data Mining, and Privacy), a Coordination Action funded by the EU (2009-2012). It is organized by the Knowledge Discovery Department at the Fraunhofer Institute for Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems (IAIS) in Sankt Augustin, Germany.
